For a cheap holiday in Rome we strongly recommend to watch out our metro system.
In a busy and chaotic city like Rome where the buses are always in late the Metro is the only public transportation that works really well.
Even if there are only 2 lines of Metro (“A” and “B”… red and blue) that cross in Termini railway station traversing the city in an X-shape Metro system is a valid public transportation to discover the historical centre of Rome.
Metro gives the chance to budget visitors of Rome to book an accomodation near the city centre and ensures quick links with the historical areas.
The Metro of Rome starts everyday at 5.30 AM and the last train leaves at 11.30 PM.
Friday and Saturday the last train leaves at 1.30 AM
During the Metro closing time two night buses replace the subway
N1 for metro A (red line) – N2 for metro B (blue line)
These two buses stop near each metro station except for “Spagna”
Metro tickets are on sale through vending machines at every station,
• BIT (€ 1,50) Valid for 100 minutes from the moment it has been stamped
• BIG (€ 6) Valid for the entire day for an unlimited number of journeys until midnight
• BTI (€ 16,50) Valid for 3 days from the date it has been first stamped, meaning until midnight of the third day including stamping, for an unlimited number of journeys
• CIS (€24 ) Valid for 7 days from the date it has been first stamped, meaning until midnight of the third day including the day it was stamped, for an unlimited number of journeys
